Wayne Gretzky wasted no time proving that he was "The Great One". The 1979 - 80 NHL season was both the Oilers and Gretzky's first seasons in the NHL. While the team finished with a respectable 28 - 39 - 13 record, Gretzky was more than respectable. Gretzky finished the season with 137 points, 51 goals and 86 assists, tied for the league lead with Marcel Dionne. The 86 assists also led the league, and to this day, 137 points is still the record for most points scored by a first year player. While the jersey looks the same as the later Oilers jerseys that we make, there are differences: the sleeve numbers, the back twill and the back name font to name a few. This jersey also features a patch celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the City of Edmonton.
